Y. Ming Zhang, M.D., Ph.D.

Biography

It has been my pleasure to be with the Pathway Center, to collaborate with other experienced clinicians and therapists to provide comprehensive treatments and high quality care that are geared to meet each individual‘s needs.

I graduated from a highly competitive eight-year medicine program from Tianjin Medical University, China. I finished my Ph.D. degree in Cardiovascular Physiology at University of Calgary, Canada. I did medical research at Emory University before beginning my psychiatric residency at University of Virginia, Roanoke/Salem program.

My professional knowledge across from cardiovascular physiology to human behavior allows me to appreciate how biological and genetic factors play roles in our physical conditions and emotional states. My experiences from different countries across various cultures further enable me to understand how our backgrounds, environments and spirits affect our body, mind, and soul.  My personal life experiences, including education, training, work, marriage and being a mother of two, have polished my positive, enthusiastic, caring and durable character with more understanding, tolerance and tenderness.
I treat various psychiatric illnesses, including depression, anxiety, panic  disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, and et al.

I believe that the best treatment outcome arrives from a combination approach consists of biological treatment, psychotherapy, therapeutic alliance and supportive environment. My education, knowledge and experiences are tools for me to help people, and my compassion and love give me the confidence, stamina and joy to work with people searching for better lives.
